Essay Prompt: Think carefully about the information presented in the following excerpt and the assignment below.People's lives are the result of the choices they make—or fail to make. The path one takes in life is not arbitrary.Choices and their consequences determine the course of every person's life. All people, whatever their circumstances, make the choices on which their lives depend.Assignment: Are people's lives the result of the choices they make? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue.Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.Essay: When a person is born, he literally has nothing with him - at that point, he literally has infinite options as to what to do with his life.Yet, when he grows up, the person he will have become will solely be a result of the choices that he has made. The very essence of a person is indirectly a result of his previous actions and the decisions that he made.I believe that the choices a person makes and their consequences determine the course of every person's life.I have learned this lesson from a person who was once my closest friend. In elementary and middle school, we used to be inseparable. Our friendship was everlasting, surviving through any storm, through thick and thin. However, by the time we reached high school, things abruptly took a turn for the worse. He started to fall in with the wrong crowd, and later became very introverted, hardly talking to anyone anymore.A shady look flitted between his eyes.I felt as though I hardly even knew him anymore. Finally, our friendship was shattered into tiny pieces on the day he got arrested.I was grief-stricken when when I saw the police handcuff him and throw him into the police car like a piece of vermin. It just goes to show how great the repercussions of our previous actions truly are.As a high school student, I constantly have to worry about my GPA, what college I want to go to, and all those other typical things that most high school students worry about. If I truly want to succeed in life, I must persevere and go through the daily grind with hope for the future. However, I do have the option to slack off and show complete apathy towards my future. But if I do so, the consequences of my present actions will sooner or later catch up with me later on in life, when I might have no job or money. That is why I work hard today so that at least I have the prospect of a good future waiting for me.I am aware of the fact that even a single decision can make or break my future. All people, whatever their circumstances, make those critical, life-altering choices which their futures depend on.The choices that a person makes will ultimately define who he is as an individual. To quote a line from one of my favorite movies, " Back to the Future 3", " The future is not fixed - it becomes what you make of it."
Can you score this SAT I essay on a scale of 1-6?
I am an American high school senior and I just recently begun considering McGill, though I know it is pretty late to do this.On their website I just read the deadline for American students to apply is January 15, so I definitely still have some time.I was just wondering what anyone could tell me about McGill? Especially for international students? Like campus life, future job opportunities/connections, academics, admission selectivity, the process of applying, etc. Also, it has pretty low SAT score medians for a school ranked in the top 20 internationally, which confused me.Anyone know anything about that? (" The median SAT scores for verbal, math, and writing were 690, 680, and 690, respectively").Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.

I've been playing through the be a pro mode on fifa 10.In my second season with the Galaxy, I'm scoring a bucket of goals and doing really well.I've played well for the U.S.national team too, with a high form rating I am now the team captain.I was anxiously awaiting the super hyped World Cup 2010.There were 6 days left until the world cup, and I played what I thought would be my last club game before that started. But instead, after I finished that last game, the calendar skipped ahead by about 1 month. All the club games in between had been simulated and in the box where it says " Next National Team Match" it has no date.It still says I'm the captain though. So what happened? Do I play the World Cup later? Do I not play the world cup in Be a Pro mode? I wasn't kicked off the team and the US definitely qualified, because why else would it simulate those games? Anyone know what's up with my game?
Fifa 10 Be A Pro World Cup?
details belowNEW YORK – It's no mistake. This credit card's interest rate is 79.9 percent. The bloated APR is how First Premier Bank, a subprime credit card issuer, is skirting new regulations intended to curb abusive practices in the industry. It's a strategy other subprime card issuers could start adopting to get around the new rules.Typically, the First Premier card comes with a minimum of $256 in fees in the first year for a credit line of $250.Starting in February, however, a new law will cap such fees at 25 percent of a card's credit line.In a recent mailing for a preapproved card, First Premier lowers fees to just that limit — $75 in the first year for a credit line of $300.But the new law doesn't set a cap on interest rates.Hence the 79.9 APR, up from the previous 9.9 percent." It's the highest on the market. It's the highest we've ever seen," said Anuj Shahani, an analyst with Synovate, a research firm that tracks credit card mailings. The terms are eyebrow raising, but First Premier targets people with bad credit who likely can't get approved for cards elsewhere. It's a group that tends to lean heavily on credit too, meaning they'll likely incur the steep financing charges. So for a $300 balance, a cardholder would pay about $20 a month in interest.First Premier said the 79.9 APR offer is a test and that it's too early to tell whether it will be continued, according to an e-mailed statement. To comply with the new law, the bank said it will no longer offer the card that has $256 in first-year fees as of Feb.21, 2010.However, customers will still be able to use their existing cards. The bank said " no final decisions" have been made regarding any rate changes for those cards.First Premier noted that it needed to " price our product based on the risk associated with this market." The bank declined to specify how many people were offered the 79.9 APR card.According to First Premier's Web site, the credit cards are serviced by its sister organization Premier Bankcard. The company, based in Sioux Falls, S.D., says Premier Bankcard is the 10th largest issuer of MasterCard and Visa cards in the country, with more than 3.5 million customers. In a mailing sent to prospective customers in October with the revamped terms, First Premier writes "...you might have less-than-perfect credit and we're OK with that." The letter notes that an online application or phone call is still required, but guarantees a 60-second status confirmation. The letter also states there are no hidden fees that aren't disclosed in the attached form. That's where the 79.9 percent interest rate and $75 annual fee are listed. There's also $29 penalty if you pay late or go over your $300 credit limit.Even if First Premier doesn't stick with the 79.9 APR, it will likely hike rates considerably from the current 9.9 percent to offset the lower fees, said Shahani of Synovate. The revamped terms may not be the only changes; First Premier also appears to be moving away from the riskiest borrowers. The bank typically mails offers to subprime households, meaning those with credit scores below 700.In the third quarter, however, 84 percent of its offers were sent to subprime households, down from 91 percent the same period last year, according to Synovate.First Premier could be cleaning up its credit card portfolio since the new regulations will limit its ability to raise interest rates. That could mean First Premier won't issue cards as liberally to those with bad credit. As harsh as First Premier's terms seem, that could be a blow to those who rely on the card, said Odysseas Papadimitriou, CEO of CardHub.com." Even when the cost of credit is astronomical, for people in true emergencies, it's much better than not having access to credit," said Papadimitriou.Until Feb.21, First Premier is still offering its even-higher-fee card online. So the price for credit the bank charges is at least $256 in first-year fees.
Would you 79.9% interest on a credit card?
Okay this is a question I have asked but I have not really received the motivating answer.THIS IS THE BACKGROUND INFO HERE, IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT YOU CAN SKIP DIRECTLY DOWN TO THE QUESTION.I was an exceptional student in middle school, usually the kid who made ALL As and the kid who won tons of awards. For my 8th grade year my parents moved down South and I went to middle school there for one year, it was one of the worst things to ever happen to me.My studious nature took a major hit and I was a bit corrupted since the middle school I went to had some really bad kids and my parents were not able to spend time with me.I still managed to excel and as a result I was accepted into a magnet school. Now the magnet school I went to did not have a football program and the kids in my 8th grade class filled my mind with this football garbage (I was the sheltered kid in my middle school years, when I was up North the kids I talked to wee mainly smart and studious but down south it was a different case).I wanted to be a football player and as a result since I was young, dumb and rebellious I decided to get back at my parents for making me apply to a school that did not have football.I also had a rough life fitting into the South because of my ethnicity and for that I was disgruntled. Now I have matured. My 9th and 10th grade years did not go as I wanted them to go, I had a 3.1 GPA at the end of my 10th grade year, my 11th grade year I took tons of APs and I ended up with a 3.5 (unweighted).I still feel like I wasted my potential and that I could have been valedictorian or an honor graduate if I was not so disgruntled.Going to a magnet school was rough enough and my first two years I barely even tried or pushed myself.I have a 1940 SAT score.I want to attend a top University and I KNOW it won't happen now because it is too late.I did retake the SAT but I know that not even a 2300 will get me into Yale or Princeton or Stanford.Guys, as a kid who had to travel around a lot and as a kid who saw the cold world as early as the 8th grade, I am remorseful of my actions. Now my goals are clear, I want to go to Harvard school of Law, I know I can do it because I have made As in all of my AP classes from my junior year and I made a 2100 on my practice SAT which I took on the Barron's book (which is harder than the real thing). When I am determined or focused in the world of academics, I can truly succeed. If I cannot get into a top college directly out of high school, is there any other way for me to get there or did I miss the train in high school? I plan on going to grad school too (either med school or law school, I want to attend a college like Harvard or Yale and I willing to work to my extremes to get there).Any tips? Okay guys, just answer the question and do not give me a lecture about how I don't need to attend Harvard or Yale.As a matter of fact, in the world of Law and Business, you need to attend a top level school to get the best opportunities.
High school senior: Do I still have a chance of attending a top university or is it too late?

Using Percents , PLEASE HELP ME RAISE UP MY GRADE.?
Hello.I live in the state of Massachusetts, and I am 19 years old.I received decent grades and I should have graduated with my high school class of 2008, but I failed a standardized, multiple choice mathematics test.I took the same test six times from my sophomore to senior year, but I could still not pass it -- I was always missing the the minimum passing score of the exam by four or three points.Unfortunately, unless you receive a passing score on this standardized exam, your diploma is withheld and you are not a high school graduate. As I am typing this, I have not " completed" high school.I am completely ineligible for financial aid at a community college, ect.I plan on attempting to retake the test again. If I do not pass it, I will go for my GED.I am deeply interested in pursuing a law career.Though I did not maintain grades in high school that would deem me Ivy League bound, I plan on gaining high school equivalency, working hard in a 2 year community college, and transferring to a reputable 4-year school in Boston, and eventually law school.I understand it takes very hard work and determination.I am willing to give it my all. However, my community college does not offer the best majors. Most of the students there end up asking me for help on their essays. Many show up to class hours late, and some do not pass in any work, or even know what " MLA format" is or how to create a Work Cited page.I find this humorous -- they have diplomas and are handed financial aid from the government, while I have not yet graduated and FAFSA would sniff at my request for money (though I come from a poor, underprivileged background.it's the diploma thing). Will law schools look down on my transcript for my shoddy background, or admire my hard work to overcome adversity the state has thrown in my face due to math learning disability? As of now, I am most interested in human rights.I would also like to defend people who have faced discrimination.I understand there are no definite " pre-law" programs at colleges, and most law students take Political Science, Government, ect.Which community college program would prepare me as best as possible for a future in law? Criminal Law? Legal Administrative Assistant (glorified secretary, this sounds like? haha) Paralegal? Thank you for taking the time to read and answer this diatribe.I sincerely appreciate it and I look forward to what you have to say.
What should I major in at community college that would prepare me for a career in law?
high school was fun and at the same time sad because days when it was free dress, girls my age would flock around wearing the latest trend and i would be wearing old fashion cloths. But it was fun because when i transferred into a scholarship school, i was more accepted, made life long friends and achieved good scores.
how do i put this in a good sentance?
My cumulative GPA (not with senior year) is 3.24...But my SAT score was 2090 (710 Writing, 710 Reading, 670 Math).I have an upward trend, as of senior year (almost all As, now..).At the end of HS, I'll have taken five AP courses and four honors.Extracurriculars: High School Newspaper: 3 years; section editor this yearCommunity Service Trip to Ecuador in 10th gradeCommunity Service Board in 11th gradePlayed a club sport for two yearsFew other clubs, etc.I also a publication I run by myself that I wanted to submit as a supplement.I'll also be applying EDII, and I'm confident my essay (Why GW?) will be great, as I have put TONS and TONS of hours into researching this school and know most everything about it (in terms of programs, facilities, etc).Unfortunately, it's too late for an interview, but there were some family issues that arose that stopped me from apply Early Decision I.In any case, I'm stabbing myself for not getting an interview, sooner. This is my dream school, and I really want to showcase that on my application.Any tips?
