What are my chances at getting accepted at UVM? (I'm applying Regular Decision) I was born and raised in Vermont and still live here. My GPA is around a 3.3 on my high school's scale. 3.7 weighted. It would be higher but I struggled during my Freshmen year due to my Mom dying of Cancer. My ACT Composite is a 23 (low, I know). This year (Senior year) I'm taking: AP Literature an CompositionAP Calculus ABAP Computer Science APhysicsFilm CriticismAmerican SpiritJunior Year: ChemistryDriver's EdAP US Government & PoliticsPre-AP Calculus AB / Pre-CalculusLatin IPersonal FitnessMy Freshmen and Sophomore years I took the standard Math, English, History, and Science courses, I also took some Foreign Language, Gym, and Art courses. Throughout Freshmen and Sophomore year I took: Geometry, Algebra II, Earth Science, Biology, Global History, US History, Accelerated English 9 and 10, French II, Art I, Computer Animation I, Computer Animation II, Team Sports, Target Sports, Outdoor Education, HealthI also took a college math course at UVM during the summer of my Junior Year (I took College Algebra). I should also get some raving recommendations from previous Math and Chemistry teachers. Additionally, starting in my Freshmen year, I got heavily interested in higher mathematics. I've since taught my self calculus (single and multi-variable), basic differential equations, basic chaos theory, etc. I believe the Co-Chair of the Math Department said he'd include this in my Guidance Recommendation. I also recently got interested in Representation Theory -- I've been doing some work in that. I had an ex-English Professor (not from UVM) read my admissions essay and she's made some suggestions -- so hopefully my essay will be in tip-top shape by the time I submit it. I have also been holding down a job at a local grocery store since early-2008. I have also taken two online courses at VHS (Virtual High School). What would you say my chances are? Thanks!

Chances at getting into UVM? (University of Vermont)?

What forms should i fill now to get admission into reputed engineering college?
Hi, I'm currently a senior in high school and applying to several selective colleges. I did not realize that the registrar for sending transcripts will be closed during winter break-- would these transcripts processed late jeopardize my admission potential? The transcripts will probably not be processed until Jan 5th or 6th... and the the deadlines are on Jan 1I requested them at 12/23/2009. they probably will not be postmarked until after winter break-- Jan 5, 2009

What to do about late transcripts?
I just graduated from college and received my A. A degree in Liberal Arts. I have decided I would like to become a dental hygienist. My gpa is kinda sucky (2.4) and my biology grade isn't that great either. The admission requirements for the community college that offers the dental hygiene program are: A minimum of a " C" or better in high school biology and chemistry or the equivalent (college). and a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. My GPA in high school was around a 3.2. And my biology/chemistry grades were better. Do you think I'm going to have to retake the college biology and chemistry classes? Or will the college just rely on my high school grades/GPA?

I have a question about GPAs?
So here's the story: I am 17 years old. We were talking about college admissions. My aunt happens to know someone of a high position in the school, UC Santa Cruz. At the dinner table, she offered to talk to this person to get him to make sure I am accepted into the school. I told her, " No, thank you. I would like to try to get accepted to the school on my own." I want it this way because I don't want an unfair advantage over anyone. So, after my aunt left, my dad starts telling me how disappointed he is in me. I told him my reason for not taking the offer and he tells me that it's just my poor excuse of not being more outgoing and taking the offer. Again, he walks away telling me that he's very disappointed in me. It is right before the holidays and we are now in a negative mood against each other and we are not speaking. Can someone tell me your thoughts and opinions on this situation?

Got in a fight with my dad and am very angry, what should i do?
Okay so I am starting a blog on this but I feel like you guys should see some of the info I put up. This is advice coming from a student who was accepted into Cornell, Columbia, Harvard and MIT right out of high school (of course my ethnicity might have had a say in that). Anyways I want to offer you guys some advice about college admissions and getting into the top colleges.1. Make the most of your summer vacations, the sooner the better. The difference between a good applicant and a great applicant is that a great applicant does some volunteer work, internship and community service in his/her summer vacations. If you are applying for an Ivy, this is important because you never know who you will meet. When I was doing my internship at a law firm, I met a Harvard alumni who wrote me a letter of recommendation to attend Harvard, this plays a huge role in acceptance. If possible, try to start your own community service, if you see a local lake which is dirty, set up a clean up service and get your friends involved. Message is, DO SOMETHING other than playing videogames and going on myspace your summer vacation.2. " My GPA is not that highest and it is not a 3.75 can I still attend an Ivy?" Yes you can. Now if you are a senior it may be too late but if you are a sophomore or junior, a lower GPA can be overturned. Here is how. A. During your junior and senior years, try to take as many AP classes as possible. If you are currently a junior then ask your teacher if you can enroll in an AP Class. B. Go for Joint Enrollment at a local college, take college classes during the summer or during the school year (night school), that will look good on your resume. C. Stock up on as many APs as possible the first semester of your senior year, take at least 5.D. Spend your summer vacation studying for the SATs, a score of 2200 or above puts you in range for Harvard, Princeton and Yale, 2100 and above puts you in range for Columbia, Brown, Dartmouth and UPenn. E. On Essays, mention your GPA and WHAT you have learned from your mistakes, not all Ivy League students made A's throughout high school, some even made Bs and Cs.3. SAT Scores matter, sure at a state university a high GPA can overcome a Low SAT score but for the Ivies, you MUST have a 1350 or above (math and reading) to stay competitive. Spend 5 hours every day if you have to but make sure that you get your SAT scores up. Math and reading matter the most. Take the SAT twice your junior year and once your senior year, take it the first semester of your junior year, the second semester of your junior year and the first semester of your senior year for best results.4. Get ready for the SAT subject tests, try to get them over with the summer before your senior year so you can focus on the college applications your senior year. 5. Play a sport if you can, it is not mandatory but it helps a lot. Even if you sit on the bench for 4 years (you shouldn't, all seniors in most schools get playing time) it shows commitment to the colleges and makes your application look good.6. A friend of mines (currently applying to Princeton) asked me, " what is the difference between someone going to an Ivy League school and someone not going?". I simply told him, " someone going to an Ivy League school actually applied". Get my point? Do not let anyone tell you that you are wasting your time applying. A lot of the students in Ivy League colleges right now (other than the legacies) did not believe that they could get in but they got in because they applied. Every year there is a miracle, no matter what school there is always going to be the one kid who WOWS the college admission committee and gets into a top college while the " top" students are left dropping their jaws. You can be that kid!**Word of advice: Stay away from College Confidential. I have seen many people on here recommend everyone that site but I will tell you that whole site is a waste of time. It is full of people who make outrageous claims and inflate their grades to make themselves look admirable. It is full of people with low self esteem and " parents" who feel the need to discourage others from applying to the top schools. The whole site is a waste of time and a waste of energy and it is completely based off numbers. If you do not believe me, look that site up on urban dictionary. TOP STUDENTS do not waste their time on garbage sites like College Confidential. You shouldn't either. so what do you guys think? Unless you have a disorder that makes you a bad test taker, you cannot overcome a poor SAT score. Also do know that an SAT score that is " poor" for the Ivies is a score like a 1950 or 1980, anything below that really ruins your chances of admission to an Ivy. Yea, the people on college confidential do that. Livin in their own fantasy world.

May I have everyone's attention, I have some college admissions advice to offer you guys?
This program provides you conditional acceptance into their college of medicine without taking the pesty MCAT or interviews.

Are there any other colleges/ universities that have a program similar to OSU's Medical Admissions Pathway?
I do not wish to show off by any details, I just wish to know how my scores will fare up north. I want to get into a good northern school, as in ivy league/MIT, especially those with a scientific leaning. Since I live in the south, the most taken test is the ACT, however I also took the SAT. On the ACT, I got a 35 (math 35); however, I got a 2220 (1470, math 760) on the SAT, which is about the equivalent of about a 33 on the ACT. Stats for the colleges I want to reach for say the median score is almost exactly my SAT, but a bit lower than my ACT. Now, I want to know if my scores are pushing it due to the SAT score, or if I will have done about as well as I can test-wise to apply to these colleges due to my ACT. Please note that I know well that these schools have low admission rates even for good standardized test scores, I just want to know if I'm on the same footing as everyone else aside from other activities.

ACT versus SAT in the North?
